At Elegantini we have been asking the question, who likes Autumn? Quite few of us actually and we wanted to share our thoughts on making the most of Autumn to keep the sprits' high as Winter is looming. We have come up with what we love about Autumn, it may be the best time of year.
Halloween and Bonfire Night
Halloween and Bonfire Night is a time to wrap up warm, decorate the house and invite all your friends and family over to watch fireworks. The perfect food is sausages and jacket potatoes on a cold evening. It is a great time of year for the little ones to dress up and go trick or treating. However; animals do not love bonfire night as much as us, keep a radio on for them and speak to your vet for very nervous pets to get the best advice.
Lewes Bonfire Night, on the East Sussex coast is probably one of the best venues you could visit on bonfire night. This year on the 5th November watch the festival as it parades through the usually peaceful town. For more information visit: https://www.lewesbonfirecelebrations.com/
Long Walks and Country Pubs
It is a great time of year to go for a Sunday walk and finish in a country pub. Now the BBQ has been put away, the traditional Sunday Dinner is a must. Support your local pub or explore a new country pub. There are some great websites to help you find the best walks and country pubs, check out http://myfavouritepubwalks.co.uk.
One of our favourites is a good walk around St Margarets, nr. Dover and finish off in the Smugglers, they offer great food and always a good atmosphere when you arrive. http://www.thesmugglers-inn.co.uk/
Fluffy Jumpers and Cozy Socks
There is nothing better than a favourite fluffy jumper and putting on snuggly socks, now is the time you can indulge yourself into a good book when the weather is stormy outside. Start getting your winter wardrobe out or have some retail therapy, we love this Diamond Soft Touch Snuggle Top from Next at £20 http://www.next.co.uk
While we are in the garden in the Summer evenings, we do not mind the telly being a bit boring. However, Autumn guarantees us some great TV and new box sets to snuggle down with a cosy blanket on the settee as the nights draw in and the heating goes on. A Saturday night in with X Factor or Strictly with all the family can be just as fun as a night out.
Soup and Comfort Food
As the weather turns colder and we grab our winter coats, it is also a time of year when we all want comfort food. Gone are the salads and iced yogurt deserts, we all need hearty casseroles and thick soups. We recommend a soup maker, they are an easy way to make healthy soup. The one we know is very good is “Morphy Richards Soup Maker” www.morphyrichards.co.uk, we have made some great soups with this.
Open Fires and Log Burners
The best part of Autumn is to have a fire to sit around and warm the soul. We do recommend that you have the chimney swept regularly to keep safe. A crackling fire makes everyone feel warm and contented. We do not need to feel guilty about spending the day under the blanket and doing nothing.
