How To Be The Best Weekend Host

June 30, 2017

Here at Elegantini, we are aware that we all get that phone call from friends and relatives on a Thursday night to see if they can come and visit for the weekend. Now summer has now arrived, it is the time of year when we pop to see our nearest and dearest for the weekend.  Here are some tips to help you with unexpected guests and make them think you are the perfect host.

Be Prepared – Guest Towels and Linen

If you have guests suddenly just arrive, you can stay calm knowing that you have enough bed linen and guest towels for them.  When the sales are on, why not buy some extra towels and linen, this can then be put away ready for those extra guests.

Guest Hamper

Keep a small basket in your guest bedroom or in your linen cupboard to pull out when needed. In the basket, you can pop small shampoos, shower gel and anything else they may find useful while staying with you. Stock up on them when they are on sale at the local supermarket or if you travel frequently yourself the free shower gels and shampoos at large hotels are always great for your own guests.

What On in Your Area

Start creating a book with things to do in your local area. It is surprising how much we do not know about our local area and what’s going on.  By visiting our local attractions that are on our doorstep we are supporting our local economy, so take the opportunity when you have guests come to stay to show off your local attractions.

Say it With Flowers

Brighten their room with cut flowers from the garden or local florist, if easier. Your guest will love the personal touch and feel really welcome. If this is too much or your guests are arriving imminently, a candle can freshen the atmosphere and add a glowing ambience to the room.

To Cook or Not to Cook – That is the Question

The choice is yours, if you find it too stressful, then go to the local pub or restaurant for dinner or order an Indian or Chinese. If you love being in the kitchen we would suggest a dinner that can be prepared earlier or left in a slow cooker. Your guests have come to see you and want to spend time with you, so do not become a slave to the kitchen all weekend.

And Relax…

Your guests have come to see you remember, so just relax and have fun. When we say “make yourself at home” means that everyone should just relax and if things are not perfect, it’s fine, they are aware it’s not a luxury hotel. The best weekend with friends and family are when everyone mucks in and have fun together.

After They’ve Gone

Once you have done the tearful goodbyes, take a moment to breath and spend time with your kids or pets. Remember their routine has changed for the weekend and they may feel that they need some quality time with you to themselves now.

And then call us to help clear everything up and make your home ready again for the next guests.
